Naples , a city that never finishes to amaze.
And it’s the case of the last archaeological discovery that  took place in the agora of the ancient city , which reminds us once again of the existence of the inestimable artistic heritage that lies deep in the belly of Partenope .
But let’s step back .
It was 2010 when a reporter for the daily newspaper “Il Mattino “ of Naples makes a startling discovery .
We are in the heart of the old city , ten steps from Piazza San Gaetano , more precisely in front of the Church of Scorziata , founded in 1582 and closed to the public for 35 years .

At one time the sacred temple housed paintings by the most prestigious landscape painters of the representational as Stanzione or Solimene , not to mention the fine wooden furniture and the majestic holy water fonts that were going to decorate the building , but for which , unfortunately, nothing remains today as a result of 80 devastating earthquake and subsequent raids of thieves and street urchins .

But perhaps all is not lost , yes, because a closer look under the remains of the damaged floor , you can see a trap , just like in the movies, leads directly to an underground cavity where lies an ancient fresco of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

A surprising discovery that excites everyone, including the caver Enzo Albertini called for technical advice and the lawyer Ciro Cerino , President of the Board of ‘ “Opera Pia Scorziata of the Holy Temple “.
Since then there have been four years of restoration expected by the Superintendent , even the shadow.
The situation is more deteriorated following a devastating fire that struck the church , and the risk that the painting disappears forever is getting closer .

Here the reason for the appeal, sponsored by “Il Mattino” , with  the editors of Charme Naples, pointing to cultural operators of the territory, so that someone saved from decay and neglect of this forgotten art , private of its historical and religious identity .
