In 2015 the best extra virgin national olive oils IGP belong to Toscana, Sardinia and Terra di Bari. On the second step of the podium the “nectar green” of Sannio. This was established by a panel of professionals of the 13th edition of the Sirena d’Oro, a national competition sponsored by the City of Sorrento, with the collaboration of FederDop Olio and Unaprol. The companies were announced yesterday morning, in the press room of the Chamber of Deputati, during a conference which was attended by the deputies Davide Mongiello and Paolo Russo, the Mayor of Sorrento Giuseppe Cuomo, the president of Federdop Oil Daniele Salvagno and the general manager of Peter Unaprol Pietro Sandali. Altogether nine oils were awarded, divided into the three categories of the competition: fruity light, fruity medium and intense fruit. The Gold Sirena among the fruity light was won dall’Oliviera Sant’Andrea with the IGP Toscano. Silver Sirena farm Marfuga, with the DOP Umbria Colli Assisi-Spoleto, and Sirena Bronze at Frantoio Pruneti with DOP Chianti Classico. In the category medium fruity won the Siren golden the cooperative Olivicoltori Valley Cedrino with Dop Sardinia. The farm Pietrabianca, with the DOP Cilento, won the Silver Siren. The farm The Three Pillars, with the DOP Terra di Bari (Bitonto), got the Bronze Sirena. And the DOP Terra di Bari (Bitonto) the Gold Sirena in the category of intense fruit, which was won by the farm De Carlo. The Silver Siren and Bronze Siren were won by two companies of Dop Monti Iblei (Monte Lauro): respectively the farm and agricultural cooperative Terraliva Agrestis. “The 2015 edition of the Sirena d’Oro – observe the organizers – took place in a year characterized by a sharp decline in domestic production of extra virgin olive oil, caused by abnormal weather phenomena of 2014, in addition to other extraordinary events such as disease and pest attacks that have assaulted the olive trees”. Despite the difficulties that have hit the sector, were 109 companies that have registered their oils to the national competition. The winning companies of Sirena d’Oro will be awarded the April 30, Sorrento, on the occasion of the event “The Values of the Territory“, scheduled in the coastal town until May 3.
