For the best bread and pastries, just follow your nose to Moccia where a flavour experience awaits you. The aroma from the Moccia shop and bakery pervades Via San Pasquale and the surrounding streets leading one and all to ‘taste bud heaven’ What you choose will depend only on the time of day and your personal preference: pastries, savoury snacks, bread, ice cream, chocolates, sweets and coffee, either to take away or enjoy at the bar. The Moccia family have long been renowned as master bakers, delighting Neapolitan families with their rosetta rolls and loaves of various formats, as well as taralli savoury biscuits and miniature baked pizzas. [charme-gallery]Ah, those Moccia pizzette – a must at any children’s (or grown-up’s) party – accompanied by the family specialities: savoury filled brioche and pan canasta sandwiches The family branched into cakes in 1936 and Neapolitans need no persuading when it comes to Sunday lunch cakes or an assortment of pastries for meetings, provided the packaging bears the Moccia family’s rampant lion logo. Pupella Maggio even dedicated a poem to their sfogliatella but all their pastries are equally mouth-watering. Their traditional Neapolitan sweets are a feast for the eyes and taste buds and words cannot describe their nougats, Christmas cakes, choux pastries, mimosa cakes and their Neapolitan migliaccio. Their specialities include the scazzetta di cardinale sponge cake with strawberries and custard, and their unmistakeable vacheron ice cream cake with meringue that can be made to order.
