Filmed in the municipalities of San Lupo and Guardia Sanframondi, in province of Benevento, the film – the debut of Roberto Bontà Polito – is inspired by ancient legend of Campania to tell a story esoteric built like a thriller. The objective is to give back to the public a glimpse of a small village in the province where the memory continues to be an irreplaceable tool between the past, present and future. A kind of ghost story based on folk tradition. The Janara title is indeed a witch. A witch killed while she was pregnant (probably a noble place), which launches a curse upon the land: no one could raise a child. This is the beginning of the film that makes use of the likes of Rosaria De CiccoAlessandro D’AmbrosiLaura SinceriGianni CapaldiNoemi Giangrande. Also starring a casertana. The little Cloè Greta Lettieri. A child prodigy of just 10 years, despite his youth, has already participated in film productions, commercials, television programs and fashion shows. The soundtrack of “Janara”, produced by Film Vargo, also makes use of a song written by Eugenio Bennato and Sandro Di Stefano.
This, however, the film’s plot.
In a village in the province of Benevento, San Lupo, by a short time disappear children. Police believe it is a pedophile but the people of the country that is afraid to take away their children both Janara, a witch. There is in fact an ancient legend about a Janara burned at the stake when she was pregnant, which would curse the villagers and their offspring. Marta and Alessandro are a young couple expecting a baby a few weeks. They arrive in San Lupo to testamentary matters related to the death of her grandfather and are embroiled in an affair contours increasingly macabre. While the umpteenth disappearance blows a psychosis in the country, Marta realizes that his connection with the legend of Janara is far away. The urge to run away is great, but is also strong desire to stop this spirit that takes possession of the most valuable asset of the families. To do so, however, will have to stake his life and that of the child she is carrying.
