chiara vigo

Her figure evokes Penelope, Nausicaa and the nymph Calypso. She is studied around the world and her works adorn museums and institutions for years, but it can neither sell nor buy.

Is Chiara Vigo, whose incredible ability to weave the silk sea is lost in the mists of time. It seems, in fact, have been brought to Sardinia from Jewish princess Berenice, lover of Emperor Titus, in exile on the island of Sant’Antioco.

The natural talent of Chiara in transforming the marine byssus (filament taken from Pinna Nobilis, the largest shellfish in the Mediterranean), its unique culture and heritage of oral and gestural, have earned numerous awards over the years, not least that of Commander of the Italian Republic.

An extraordinary woman, whose history was contained in a book and a documentary bilingual, will be presented by actress and producer Maria Grazia Cucinotta, tomorrow, March 11, at 17, in the Chapter House of the Convent of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples.

“Chiara Vigo last Master of fine linen” is the title of Rossana Cingolani’s documentary presented to UNESCO for the candidacy of Clare as Intangible Heritage of Humanity, but also of the volume of Susanna Lavazza illustrated by some 150 images, both published by Carlo Delfino publisher.
