As every first Sunday of the month, also March 1, the Archaeological Group Vesuviano, welcome lovers, tourists and residents, at the extraordinary archaeological complex of Villa Sora Torre del Greco, overwhelmed Plinian eruption in 79 AD, the same that involved the nearby Herculaneum and Pompeii. The event is scheduled from 10 to 13, in via Cemetery (access from Viale Campania) for a free guided tour to discover our more remote past.

Villa Sora, as well as the Villa of the Papyri, Villa of the Mysteries and that of Oplontis, was in fact the home of elite town who, tired of the chaos of the city, he could take refuge in one of these majestic buildings in which dedicated themselves to relax. The walls are visible in almost all reticulated work, and, combined with other elements such as the floors in earthenware, its wall paintings and ceramics, allow us to say that the building dates back to Silla or Caesar.

Define, however, the ownership of this villa, originally built on three floors, and is currently open only the middle floor, is not easy. Through the study of the findings, considering the extension of the complex and examining some sources, it can be assumed that it belonged to the imperial family.
