The Caravaggio Musicians at Zevallos Palace in Stigliano will no longer have secrets. “The Music”, from 1595, was probably the first of the paintings painted by the artist for the cardinal and patron Francesco Maria Bourbon Del Monte. The painting must be interpreted as an allegory of Music and Love symbolized by the cupid holding the grapes. The scholars agree that the crown player is the self-portrait of the great master.
On this occasion, the authors of the text and music of the madrigal depicted by Caravaggio in the Musicals will be unveiled in absolute preview, followed by a long and long search by the musicologist Domenico Antonio D’Alessandro.
At the end, a short concert where all the madrigals will be performed as well as painted by the great Lombard painter in some of his works. The event will also be embellished by the first modern execution of the madrigal depicted in New York canvas; The music will be played both in the original 6-voice polyphonic version and in the singing and playing version as well as painted by Caravaggio.
