It was September 7, 1860 when Giuseppe Garibaldi looked out from the balcony of the Palazzo Doria d’Angri to announce to the crowd celebrating the annexation of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to that of Italy. It was the crucial step to get to the declaration of the unification of Italy that came six months later. Now the floor of the historic building situated in the center of Naples, including the famous balcony, to what we read on the pages of a popular portal of real estate ads, is for sale. Covering more than one thousand square meters, over the years, has had many different uses: as the seat of the Ministry of Education, to that of a normal school, then to house a catering company and events and even a bed and breakfast. The charm of the property, with large reception rooms and halls of mirrors, has remained unchanged in its nearly 250 years of history. Its construction was in fact beginning in 1755 with the decision to Marcantonio Doria to buy some property in the area to build the family mansion. It was then the son of Marcantonio, Giovan Carlo, to entrust the project to no less than Luigi Vanvitelli, the famous architect of the nearby Royal Palace of Caserta, who completed it in 1769. The palace was then completed in 1780. For a long time its majestic facade was covered by work on the construction of the subway and now, free from tarps and scaffolding, seeking a buyer showing the gaze of those who walk the streets in Sette Settembre square or in via Toledo.
