Over177 feetlong and nearly 34 feetwide, the Columbus 177 is the latest vessel to be built in the Palumbo shipyards, and the first mega yacht ever made in Naples. Commissioned by Columbus Yachts Ltd, a Montecarlo based shipping firm, two Columbus 177 vessels will be built, and work has already begun on the steel hulls so that the first yacht can be launched in 2010. Managed by Antonio Palumbo, president of the ship repairs division of the Neapolitan Industrialists Association, Palumbo S.p.A. can count on over 40 years’ experience, a 110 man workforce and 200 associated workers in the ports of Naples and Messina where the company has one concrete and two floating dry docks, a slipway for ships up to185 metresin length, as well as wharves and moorings. [charme-gallery]Designed by Hydro Tec engineer Sergio Cutolo, the yacht will have a steel hull and aluminium alloy superstructure to reduce weight and increase stability. The interiors combine elegant materials and the latest technology in the six guest suites, the two lounges, and the master suite which occupies the main deck’s entire bow section with an elegantly furnished bedroom, spacious bathroom and changing room, as well as an office and library. Four bedrooms below the main deck provide guest quarters while the VIP suite on the bridge deck enjoys splendid views.
