The Pompeii archaeological site meets the modern city, set in a day event to celebrate the life of Amedeo Maiuri. Will take place on January 24 in the Palazzo De Fusco the ceremony for the International Prize of Archaeology named after the famous archaeologist, who with his findings and insights was the precursor of a strong bond between the two companies, to which he himself contributed to bring prestige. The City of Pompeii intended to celebrate Maiuri by naming an award, which will be delivered to an archaeologist of international renown as part of a day event, which will continue with the opening of an exhibition on the professional archaeologist, called ” Amedeo Maiuri from Rhodes to Pompeii: a life for archeology “in the City Museum of Palazzo De Fusco, and a food and wine event linked to the food traditions of ancient Pompeii.

The event is part of a wider redevelopment of the Park of the Fonte Salutare, adjacent to the former spa in the Valley of Pompeii, now Municipal House, whose work began in recent days. The project was a recipient of a grant from the resources Pac Campania “Further promotion of goods and cultural sites of Campania” (POR Campania FESR 2007-2013). The commitment of Amedeo Maiuri in the development of the area of Pompeii, not only within the archaeological documented by texts and photographs showing, among others, the setting up of a “Domus Pompeiana” at the Parco della Fonte Salutare in 1935.

“Amedeo Maiuri was a scholar, an archaeologist who has contributed greatly to the history of Pompeii. It can be counted among the historical figures of this city, after its founder Bartolo Longo. For this reason the council has sought to title it the prize of archeology, whose ceremony will be held the day of 24 January, “says the mayor of Pompeii, Ferdinando Uliano.[charme-gallery]
“When I talk to young people, students, I like to call Maiuri like Indiana Jones of Pompeii: a name that can help to convey his message to future generations. His curiosity, his stubbornness, his knowledge has led to major discoveries in Pompeii archaeological site, although the effects of his work will be extended to the rest of the city, as evidenced by the documents and the images that the Fund Maiuri at the International Centre Studies Pompeians called “CISP” makes available to us. Preserving the memory to form new generations that will build the future of Pompeii – said the mayor Uliano – this is the ambitious challenge that we intend to launch a premium of archeology, only the first of many events involving citizenship”.

Laura Del Verme, archeologist and artistic director of the International Prize “Amedeo Maiuri,” says the foresight to identify Maiuri in the heart of Pompeii a new cultural center, as well as a green area to spend free time. “A determines kept in Maiuri and dated to the 30 places in the Source greet the ideal place to celebrate the “Ferragosto Pompeian“. The event will be remembered for its uniqueness, having to plan a moment of historical re-enactment of a sumptuous Pompeii, is performed in the gardens of the then Municipal park of the Fonte Salutare. The organizing committee of the event imagined to enhance the site, then famous for the therapeutic properties of thermal water and for this event will be prepared a plan, endorsed by its Maiuri, accommodation of the avenues and gardens of the park. Those same gardens – adds Laura Del Verme – which then would provide a unique scenic backdrop for the event, well documented in the memorable shots of the time. ”

The redevelopment project of the Fonte Salutare comprises three operations, as illustrated by the person responsible for the procedure, the engineer Michele Fiorenza: “First of all, you are making the general restoration of the pool of Source Greet, 18 meters in diameter, with the cleaning, consolidation, waterproofing and painting of surfaces, preparatory to its new functions. Another element which the intervention is “The Garden of Memory carbon“, a green area where they will be placed the industrial archaeological finds such as gears and pumps that were used to draw water from the ancient carbon shaft and bring it into the tub. Finally, an area of 835 square meters corresponding to the playground will be upgraded”.

One of the most famous mosaics of antiquity, one that bears the inscription “Cave Canem” and depicts man’s best friend related, returned the admiration of the public after the recent restoration. The mosaic is located at the entrance of the domus “Tragic Poet” in the Regio VI, insula 8, the archaeological ruins of Pompeii, excavated between 1824 and the following year, which takes its name from a scene rehearsal in fresco then removed and now the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The restoration works have also affected the frescoes in the entrance and were followed by interventions of a museum of the main entrances of the house. The mosaic is now also protected by a glass structure, to ensure a better preservation also by atmospheric agents. The structure was made of tempered glass and Corten steel painted, the use of which is a novelty in the field of cultural heritage not only in Pompeii, and to put in place were reused anchor points of the previous gate, not thereby affecting the masonry antique. Moreover, after the operation, the domus has also become possible to observe good alignment entrance atrium-peristyle-tablinum with lararium, characteristic of the houses of Pompeii. “The restoration work was always carried out taking into account the needs of use of the property, so the house is not “never been closed to the public and the mosaic was screened for just 5 days”, he points out in a note of the Superintendent of Pompeii, which has used its own funds for the surgery.

Is the “Gran Fondo Naples” that Sunday, June 7 will bring hundreds of amateur cyclists to discover the historic beauty of Campania, but seen darting from the bicycle. The race is expected from the Seafront of Naples, from where the path winds past more than 120 kilometers of the race passing through the ruins of Herculaneum, Oplonti and Pompeii, to the Royal Palace of Caserta. Here is the finishing line of the middle distance of 75 km: for the most trained recovers then the journey back, that will bring cyclists in Naples, in the Historical Center, also declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

“In Naples, in Campania – there is a boom in cycling. And as the Gran Fondo races Napoli are increasing hunger bike, the hunger for the sport in the city”, said the Councillor for Sports of the City, Ciro Borriello. The path chosen among the Unesco sites of Campania is also aimed to highlight the importance of cycling that more and more is one of the assets which they use in reigone operators to attract visitors. “In Naples – confirms Andrea Cozzi, organizer of the Gran Fondo Naples – missing an event of this type. It is a test, a number zero to test the route and create the conditions a great future, the goal is to make a great Gran Fondo Naples international event opening the race to cyclists”.

Is a real challenge one launched by Massimo Osanna, Special Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae, struggling with a countdown of international interest: the complete restoration of Pompeii Ruins by the end of 2015 (“We are working hard. I count the days. We’ll make it“). This, at least, is the “dead line” set by the “Big Project Pompeii“, the maxi-plan from 105 million euro which provides for the complete redevelopment of the vesuvian site later this year.

In Turin to attend a seminar organized by the students of archeology, Osanna has not pulled back and, in an interview with the newspaper La Stampa, has unveiled what are his goals for Pompeii come. “We are carrying out work in impressive filing of all the heritage of Pompeii. A heritage detected with images, laser scanner, which will be computerized” announced the superintendent revealing, then, as the next switching points, the installation of: “a less confusing signage, new thematic routes, paths for the elderly and disabled and showrooms in common“.

One of these showrooms, sort of museum in the open air museum…represented by the ruins, will be dedicated to the exposition of what most of the other, in Pompeii, every tourist would want to see. Ie the casts of the victims. Some of these, of course, are already on display in the archaeological area (just think of the casts of the Garden of the Fugitives). “Only a few, though. Very few” Osanna precise revealing that it will be restored, “the majority“. And that casts so recovered, will then be exposed “in the amphitheater, the most attractive“. But not all. “We will rebuild the personal history, family, of each of the victims” Osanna guarantees. In short, ambitious and nothing short of impressive. That many, in every corner of the globe, expect to see materialize.[charme-gallery]

To sign the agreement and to push for the dream to reality last steps are the two municipalities of Pompeii and Boscoreale. The idea is to make available a course of just under a kilometer, following the course of the Channel Count Sarno, connects the two Vesuvian cities joining via Settetermini (in the municipality of Boscoreale, where is the headquarters of the famous archaeological museum Antiquarium and Villa Regina ruines) with via delle Tombe of which falls within the territory of the Marian city. To address the issue together the two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding and the technical departments are working on drafting a final project. Remains the node of the funding for which mayors and councilors to the branch intend to fight. Not surprisingly, they point out, the area in which it is the walk is affected by the enhancement of the elements characterizing agriculture and the typical landscape of Vesuvius, contained in the intervention “Novus Ager” presented at the table of the Plan and the Unesco Strategic Plan Valuation. Among the hypotheses that circulate to involve the Campania region with a new call for the acceleration of spending. Alternatively the two organizations think they can use the funds allocated for the works of the Italian Unlock firm for years.[charme-gallery]

The intertwining of lava trees, the majestic green of the woods , the crown of cognoli of Mount Somma, the breathtaking landscapes of the Valley of Hell, the charm of the Naples Bay , the archaeological excavations . His Majesty dominant , Vesuvius, Naples blessing of the people , is one of the main Campania. Honor and pride of the Felix Earth , but also a perennial threat on the fate of thousands and thousands of people .

The ” grand old man” peaceful slumbers . It can be admired , sly , in all its centuries-old and majestic beauty . In his coffers are hiding treats and goodness that only these fertile lands are able to forge : grapes of the most rich and tasty , that produces delicate wines such as Doc Lacryma Christi. Apricot sweet and tender , the kind that melt in your mouth . And figs tasty green color and blood type.[charme-gallery]

Good to see, in fact. But even to try. Why Vesuvius is admired with the eyes, but also with the palate. A rarity , to be honest . It deserves a rightful place in the forefront of the special gallery of the masterpieces forged from planet earth , along side the Grand Canyon , the Black Forest and the Reef . The highest place among the 7 wonders of the world , the truth is , only by a whisker Vesuvius failed to earn it seriously, even touching the final of the international competition ” New7Wonders ” devised by the New Open World Corporation to flush out the ” new seven wonders of the world. ” Want to put , on the other hand , the inimitable charm that carries the volcano sung by Seneca and Virgil , Boccaccio and Vitruvius ? And then what other “wonder” in the world can boast the legendary history of this cone ? What other volcano can boast of having inspired painters and artists ancient and modern , songbooks and poets as it has, over the centuries , the mountain of “ Funiculì Funiculà ” ?[charme-gallery]

Pompeii, Herculaneum and Oplontis must , tragically , their fame to the destructive fury of the crater. And the slaves of the rebel gladiator Spartacus succeeded in becoming game of the Roman legionaries just facing them on the slopes of the mountain on fire . The same borboni robbers that immediately after the unification of Italy , held in check the Piedmontese troops , found here their shelters . And again: Vesuvius is the only mountain to guard along its steep sides , the archaeological remains of villas and town dating back to ancient Rome , arrived almost intact to the present day thanks to the destructive before, and ” conservative ” then , lava , ash and lapilli .

Some two thousand years ago , went so far as to pay with his life for his love of Sterminator Vesevo . Pliny the Older, this is his name , he breathed his last , in fact, on the beach di Stabia , struck down by the vapors and gases expelled in the infamous eruption in 79 AD canceled Herculaneum, Pompeii and Oplontis . It was just his style describe things live . For nothing in the world the former prosecutor of Narbonne Gaul he would have missed that event. Precisely for this reason Pliny is recognized today as the first volcanologist of the story and in his honor we use the term to define a Plinian eruption of catastrophic eruption , type of explosive . The famous writer was born in Como at his home in Miseno when he was joined by a letter of support sent to him by a friend of Herculaneum. He did not think twice about it. Some armed galleys and sailed from the town flegrea heading towards the nearby coast Vesuvius to administer relief to the unfortunate inhabitants at that time beaten by the fiery cloud . The fury of Vesuvius, however, did not allow him any docking and so Pliny was forced to direct the bow towards Stabiae (modern Castellammare di Stabia) where there died , probably suffocated , 56 years . The details of the eruption of 79 AD and the last moments of the life of Pliny the Older have come down to us through the story of those dramatic moments that made his nephew Pliny the Younger.[charme-gallery]

Thanks to the incredible beauty and countless testimonies that overlap in the pages of its long history , Vesuvius, postcard of Naples and the Gulf , still active volcano of continental Europe together with the Sicilian Etna , deserves, therefore, a place of honor among the brightest pearls of the earth. A rarity that has something like 25 thousand ( and pass) years of life and a fair number of ” awakenings ” thanks to which the entire ecosystem surrounding appearance has changed several times . The last was in 1944 , during the Second World War. Since then, the volcano sung by Giacomo Leopardi and Victor Hugo came into hibernation and everyone is hoping that there is still a long time ” the Beautiful asleep in the Gulf ,” as he put it, years ago, the journalist and writer Mimmo Carratelli , leaving admire placid and crafty in all its majestic and worrying dominance of Naples.

The leadership of the Tursab, the National Association of Travel Agencies of the country’s half-moon, visited the ruins of the town Marian rimanendone literally impressed. The most famous archaeological site in the world is, in fact, among the goals of exception identified by the tour operators Turkish toward which to direct the many visitors from Turkey, as a result of the introduction of direct flights Naples-Instambul, are allocated to increase substantially in the coming years. The group visiting the archaeological reports, received by officials of the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae, was able to admire some of the most beautiful sights of Pompeii: The Forum with its splendid public buildings and temples, the Baths Stabiane the Abundance Way, the main street of the Roman city with its thermopolia, the electoral inscriptions along the walls, the major domus, and finally, the area of the Theatres. The aim of the visit is just to be able to understand, appreciate and therefore adequately convey and promote the beauty and uniqueness of the site to tour operators in Turkey and, through them, to the many potential tourists. Similar collaborative initiatives that are fully covered by the perspective of the Superintendent intends to focus its attention more and more towards the promotion and enhancement of the site.
